Poem #533

in the middle of downtown Eugene
a family lives together
in the 2nd floor apartment
two dogs and fours cats
and life is easy
husband cooks dinner
wife waters plants
kid does his homework
grandma knits her sweaters
and it feels right

Poem #529

we revolve around a black sun
I’m a planet
she’s a comet
or maybe vice versa?
I’m space junk
she’s an asteroid
maybe we orbit
maybe we float
but definitely in this star system
the darkness is so bright
the heat is so cold
gravity pulls us closer

Poem #527

the actuary read an Wikipedia page
his eyes bulged as he read:
“Death from laughter”

straightaway, he cancelled his cable
and his dentist appointment
and a dinner with an old friend

he refused to laugh
even as his face reddened
even when his cat played a fool

his sister found him dead
in his closet
his fingers clenching his shirt

coroner examined him
and determined he died from stress
too bad he didn’t see that Wikipedia page
