I thought he was dead
laying unmoving on the bed
next to me
he must have died in the night
he did not move
he did not stir
when I petted him
when I nudged him
I checked for breath
his eyes opened
he was alive
I realized
he hadn’t been so peaceful
in a long time
I forgot what it looked like
Poetry
I’m working on writing a thousand poems. I started in April 2015.
Poem #376
sister and friend
screaming laughter
artsy whimsy
complete the circle
agile phalanges
Poem #375
spastic dancing
fort building
free being
Poem #374
happy face
happy heart
Poem #373
nap nap nap
yay!
Poem #372
venom in his mouth
red-faced tantrum
complains until it’s his way
Poem #371
a half removed sock
the worst punishment
Poem #370
in summer
we jump in pools
we scream
we relax
in autumn
we get to work
we cuddle
we dream
in winter
we clean up
we prepare
we love
in spring
we invest in life
we imagine
we sing
Poem #369
unable to think
pleasantly
Poem #368
cream and caramel fur
small and enthusiastic
gentle and loving
by all accounts
a treasure of a dog
let me pet
to my heart’s content
