Poem #377

I thought he was dead
laying unmoving on the bed
next to me

I checked for breath
his eyes opened
he was alive
I realized
he hadn’t been so peaceful
in a long time
I forgot what it looked like

in summer
we jump in pools
we scream
we relax
in autumn
we get to work
we cuddle
we dream
in winter
we clean up
we prepare
we love
in spring
we invest in life
we imagine
we sing
