stars like a ceiling

Poetry
I’m working on writing a thousand poems. I started in April 2015.
Poem #248
the freeway to everything
it dissolves on the hazy horizon
storm coming from the West
heavenly rays of sunshine
gallop over the cusp of the clouds
it’s getting dark soon
Poem #247
goodness is great
greatness is rare
rarity is cool
coolness is good
Poem #246
stand on the sidewalk for 40 minutes
make eye contact to not be rude
gush about stuff you love
use a notebook to cover the stain on your shirt
listen eagerly as she talks about fandom
enjoy the tiny bits of personal information
get startled by cars and motorcycles
encourage each other to write
hope she shows up again
Poem #245
I love rules
firm boundaries
keep my edges from blurring
keep me from expanding
keep me happy
Poem #244
she’ll burn
but it’ll be her terms
otherwise she won’t
Poem #243
red bug on my pants
undulates its antennae
I lean forward to see
and red bug flies away
and I let it go
Poem #242
mature reality
don’t be a child
even if you want to be
it’s not nice
and the bad kind of selfish
Poem #241
coyote sat on a throne of branches
yip, yip, yip, he decreed
rabbit complied as best she could
deer committed the order to memory
wolf went on his business
crow started a revolution
bobcat scratched at the throne
the branches snapped
and coyote fell to the ground
twisting his hind leg
four years later he still lifts it extra
Poem #240
Monomorium minimum
little black ant
drags 20 times its weight
a superhero hated
a superhero unnoticed
wreaks havoc at the church picnic
drags away the crumbs of sweet bread
humans run and scream
slapping themselves
destruction at its most unintentional
little black ant at the center
