12 crows perched
on a freeway light
day in and day out
watching the humans
in the shiny boxes
cawed their amusement
at the hurry over nothing

3 hens settle in for the night
clicking and clacking the day’s gossip
rooster cried all morning about chicks
horse tripped in the mountain’s ride
spider’s web was ruined after a day’s work
the hens clucked raucously, pitying the folly
but, they hadn’t done anything that day

careen to the left
tilt to the side
catapult forward
it’s dangerous
you die at the end
better scream now

lonely joy
at ease
want people
not entirely
but yes
need pressure
for safety
no explosion
it’s subtle
not literal

“don’t look,” I say
“oh I see,” she says

hang upside down
let the blood rush
smile and laugh
