purring gray thing in my lap
curious paws up my chest
animal
Poem #340
the shadow of a fan in another room
fish occasionally wiggling in their tank
girl on the couch writing a poem
muffled water pattering in the bathroom
the gentle constant exhale of the vent
Poem #339
it was 6:01pm
on a Thursday evening
my dad and I were driving
on the California Interstate 5
we just passed Coalinga
and we saw the cows
on rolling hills
by cover of darkness
we pulled off the side
turned off all the lights
my dad got his snippers
I opened the trailer
and we stole a cow
no smiles, no frowns
we didn’t need it
we didn’t plan it
we continued home
with a new cow
Poem #338
crush me
suddenly from above
I’m an ant
small and strong
smashed into the pavement
Poem #337
cat lays aimlessly
eyes open but unmoving
not much to existence
human sits tense
eyes wide and flitting
existence is temporary
Poem #334
cat paws on my body
soft and rhythmic
claws in and away
through the blanket
walk next to my body
the subtle movement
barely a whisper
makes me shiver
sit against my body
the lightest touch
living breathing presence
no anxiety
just existence
Poem #330
hare runs the race
wins and goes home
hare plants a carrot garden
the carrots are delicious
hare chases other hares
dominance is established
hare practices boxing
the partner is defeated
hare runs another race
is too tired and loses
Poem #329
“I’ll just run to the store,”
said tortoise to failed entrepreneur
Poem #328
twinkle, twinkle
of the tree
knead, knead
of the cat
sing, sing
of the girl
Poem #324
a girl with a cat
sat on an asteroid
she swung her legs
meager gravity sufficed
she wasn’t alive
she wasn’t dead
she existed
passing crafts didn’t nod
passing crafts ignored
and she continued existing
forever and always
