Poem #303

I see a rabbit hopping past me
I say to the rabbit:
“where are you going?”
he says to me:
“where do you think I’m going?”
I say to the rabbit:
“I do not know.”
he says to me:
“why do you want to know?”
I say to the rabbit:
“I do not know.”
he says to me:
“then why even ask?”
he hops away

Poem #284

Sal the skink looked in
he didn’t enter her room
he waited outside
he’s a gentleman
and when she didn’t want him
he left without fuss
and he did not return
she settled into her room
and remarked only good things

Poem #283

little snail, where are you going?
do you want me to come with?
little snail, you’re so steady
you’ll get there at your own pace
little snail, your shell is hard
but I’ll still pick you up tenderly

bonus accompaniment poem:

Pablo the snail goes up the wall
he moves up with all his determination
but human child sets him on the ground

Poem #277

a cat knows

a cat knows when you’re upset
he paws gently at your face under the blanket
a cat knows when you’re happy
he lingers under your hand for a second longer
a cat knows when you’re angry
he stays on the periphery making himself available
