a mother loses her son
she doesn’t eat
she is white
as the ghost of her son
poetry
Poem #621
this room used to be empty
only a bed and a dresser
this room is now full
two fish tanks, a plant, a couch
coatstand and a desk
it is good both ways
a life well-lived – Poetry Video
After taking a poetry class this past fall, I’ve really wanted to make a poetry video. I love that we can take a traditional form and update it. It can really help to expand the meaning of a poem or just make the consumption of it more palatable. Either way, enjoy!
a life well-lived
blood-swollen mosquito flies into windshield
the wipers smear red across the glass – a blip on the dash
Poem #620
black smoke
white smoke
Poem #619
the city at 5:32am
twinkling lights
on black hills
too late to be nighttime
too early to be morning
Poem #618
forest ranger stops family
on their way to campground
she eyes each of them
something feels off
but no evidence
two days later
she greets homicide detective
Poem #617
twirling fan
whirling mind
Poem #616
alone and relaxed
maybe close eyes for just a moment
… snore
Poem #615
construction worker carries safety cone
ready to drop it with his back turned to traffic
he drops with it
Poem #614 – Purple Alien
Charlotte worked in the government
doing what her bosses said
fetching coffee and apple pie
doing everything for the FBI
one day she went down to level 8
the door to room a was open all the way
and she peeked in, thinking “what the hey?”
big mistake may day may day
it was a purple alien
she was so done
had to bring this truth to Sun
but believed by no one
because she’s crazy
must be lazy
memory hazy
world’s not daisies
they say
her life is ruined
they call her “stupid”
“a total nuisance”
“she should be muted”
because she’s crazy
must be lazy
memory hazy
world’s not daisies
they say
so she cries
about these lies
cries, cries, cries
that’s her demise
and then she dies
it was a purple alien
she was so done
had to bring this truth to Sun
believed by no one
because she’s crazy
must be lazy
memory hazy
world’s not daisies
they say
