Poem #517 – woman

she is a serious woman
dignified, collected, and fair
her outfits are pressed
her hair is coiffed perfectly
she doesn’t raise her voice
she rarely smiles
she has perfect posture
her words are careful and thoughtful

one must wonder if she breaks
does she wear pajamas with holes?
does she fuck on her knees?
does she cry in the bathroom?
does she ever drop a plate?
does she put on a goofy smile?
does she laugh uncontrollably?
is this a facade or is this her?

Poem #516

I don’t look in the mirror as much anymore
that visual validation is no longer necessary
to feel pretty or beautiful
I’ve internalized that truth
regardless of what my face or body looks like
I hope this feeling lasts
