Poem #346

she draped a towel over her shoulders
and tied it in a loose knot under her chin
she felt powerful now
even though she only did it to stay warm
she walked around the cold office
her power manifested in confident strides
she was a superhero
towers of cardboard boxes were her cityscape
she strode among them keeping watch
no one dared misbehave in her city
she continued work

Poem #340

the shadow of a fan in another room
fish occasionally wiggling in their tank
girl on the couch writing a poem
muffled water pattering in the bathroom
the gentle constant exhale of the vent

Poem #339

it was 6:01pm
on a Thursday evening
my dad and I were driving
on the California Interstate 5
we just passed Coalinga
and we saw the cows
on rolling hills
by cover of darkness
we pulled off the side
turned off all the lights
my dad got his snippers
I opened the trailer
and we stole a cow
no smiles, no frowns
we didn’t need it
we didn’t plan it
we continued home
with a new cow
