he handed her a penny
his eyebrows lifted and he smiled
she took the penny and said,
“everything.”
a crease formed between his brows
“no but really,” he said
she looked him in the eyes
“literally everything”
he looked away struggling for words
he was clearly disappointed
but her mind was never dominated
by only thoughts of him or any one thing
poetry
Poem #148
a pigeon perched near the spikes
adjusting its wings to avoid discomfort
it nestled perfectly between ledge and metal
other birds did not even try to land
only the pigeon did not yield
it was settled and comfortable
using its own method to relax
Poem #147
nap a little
nap some more
eat and talk
Poem #146
pretty kitty lies on the window sill
pretty kitty sits on the chair
pretty kitty turns into a demon
Poem #145
she has too much fun
it’s probably sinful
lucky she’s not religious
Poem #144
the current of the small creek
pushes the little fish downstream
but the little fish doesn’t mind
the little fish just floats
and enjoys the tumultuous ride
Poem #143
boxes inside of boxes
the cat licks my arm
but he doesn’t like the taste
mustard yellow chair
my hair is twisted in purple
and I wait for it to dry
mail scattered on the floor
things to be done
but I lie here motionless
Poem #142
leftovers
they remind me
of fun meals
Poem #141
the sleep is long
the rest is effective
Poem #140
light filters in sideways
into the brown tea room
the girl with bright blue eyes
stares out the window
her face is calm
soft piano music drifts around
there’s odd hope and whimsy
