Poem #24

I will take you,
girl with bright blue eyes
and endless kindness.
I will take you,
man with perfect legs
and enigmatic opinions.
I will take you,
girl with fierce eyelashes
and insurmountable swag.
I will take you,
woman with soft blue eyes
and altruistic love.
I will take you,
girl with luscious hair
and unrelenting realness.
I will take you,
boy with tough arms
and enthusiastic fervor.

And we’ll still be here,
just better and forever.

Poem #19

I bumped into you at the store, sorry!
I took too long at the door, sorry!
I stuttered over my words, sorry!
My shoes skidded on the floor, sorry!

I’m sorry
I’m sorry
I wish I wasn’t sorry
But, I’m sorry

I’m sorry, so sorry

No matter what I do
One mistake or two
Apology, I spew
You say none are due
It doesn’t matter too

I take up too much space, I’m sorry
Can’t control my face, I’m sorry
Want to enter this place, I’m sorry
Trying to win this race, I’m sorry

I know I need to stop
But it’s not so easy
‘Cause if I don’t, I’m rude
If I do, I’m weak

I’m sorry
I’m sorry
I wish I wasn’t sorry
But, I’m sorry

So sorry

No matter what I do
One mistake or two
Apology, I spew
You say none are due
It doesn’t matter too

I don’t know why I apologize
I don’t know why I care
I don’t know why I empathize
I don’t know why you don’t

No matter what I do
One mistake or two
Apology, I spew
You say none are due
Doesn’t matter to
Me

I’m sorry.

Poem #18

a boy sat by the side of the road
on his head sat a floppy straw hat
he nodded at passers by
they said, “hello, how are you?”
he shrugged and said, “content.”
they gave him odd looks
and went along their ways

the boy with the floppy straw hat
counted the leaves of the trees
he waved at an accountant passing by
“what’s the highest number?” she asked
“I’m at two thousand thirty six.”
he hadn’t finished the first tree yet
every time she passed, she asked again

Poem #17

a good friend is hard to find
you almost pass a penny on the ground
but something makes you look down
it might be shiny or tarnished
but you pick it up regardless
your pace begins to rocket
it bounces happily in your pocket
and when all is said and done,
you’re that much richer

Just Try… You Might Be Pleasantly Surprised

As a writer, the scariest thing can be putting yourself out there — showing your work. Often, we keep our work hidden, continue editing, and forever dream of being read.

But you should share your work.

Just from creating this website, I can say I’m definitely happier with myself. I feel like I’m working on my goals. I’m so thrilled that strangers might see my poetry, might even like it. Up to this point, only my cat and my friends have laid eyes on my writing, and while that is awesome, I feel like my poetry will grow from this experience.

I’ve been putting this off for a while with bad excuses: I don’t have time, I need to finish other projects first, life just gets in the way, etc. If I had known how rewarding this would feel, I would have done it a lot sooner. It’s almost as if I can taste the future that I’ve been craving.

If you’ve been contemplating sending your short story to a friend or posting a poem to social media, you should just do it. See how you feel. It could feel awesome!
